Removing the steering wheel from my son’s 1979 CJ5

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Removing the steering wheel from a 1979 CJ5 is very easy and fun. Well it’s easy if you know what to do. Here are the steps:

1) Get a gear puller set from Harbor Freight… about 30 bucks with a 20% off coupon.
2) Take the cap off of the steering wheel.
3) Remove the nut with a socket… it’s pretty tight.
4) There are two screw holes on both sides of the center bolt, screw the rods from the gear puller into the holes.
5) Connect up the gear puller up.
6) Turn the nut… and POP!

It’s fun and a gear puller is a COOL tool.
